Project description
The ACES (Association of Computer Engineering Students) Week website was designed to serve as the official digital platform for the annual student event. The goal was to create an engaging and informative website that highlighted event schedules, activities, guest speakers, and announcements while ensuring easy navigation for both students, lecturers and guests . My role focused on designing a clean, modern interface that reflected the identity of the association, while also delivering a responsive and user-friendly experience across devices. By combining clear layouts with interactive elements, the website provided a central hub for students to stay updated and connected throughout the event.
Challenges
I went through a lot of challenges while designing the website;
Responsiveness
Making sure the site was fully functional and visually appealing across different devices (desktop, tablet, mobile).
Collaboration
Coordinating with stakeholders (event organizers, developers, and content providers) to gather accurate information and align design goals.
Consistency In Branding
Ensuring the website design aligned with the identity of the association while still being modern and appealing.
Process
This category details the step-by-step approach taken during the project, including research, planning, design, development, testing, and optimization phases.
Research & Planning
Understood the goals of the event, identified the target audience (students, lecturers, and guests), and outlined the key information that needed to be highlighted (schedule, activities, speakers, announcements).
Wireframing
Sketched and built low-fidelity layouts to visualize the placement of content and navigation structure.
UI Design
Designed a modern and engaging interface that aligned with ACES branding, using clear typography, bold visuals, and a vibrant theme suitable for the event.
Prototyping & Iteration
Created interactive prototypes to test the navigation and user flow, refining based on feedback to improve usability.
Development Support
Worked with developers to bring the design to life, ensuring responsiveness across mobile, tablet, and desktop devices.
Testing & Launching
Reviewed the final build for bugs and responsiveness before the official launch to ensure a smooth user experience during the event.
Solution
The ACES Week website solved the challenge of scattered and unorganized event information by creating a central hub where students could easily access schedules, speaker details, and activity updates. It streamlined communication, reduced confusion about event timings, and made it simple for students to stay engaged before and during the event. The website ensured students could stay connected and informed across any device.
